Why Play Miss Fortune
Before we start on the Ultimate Guide to Miss Fortune we first want to tell you why you should play her. Her overall strengths and weaknesses are as follows:
- Strong early game
- Powerful laning phase
- Great at zoning/playing around objectives
- Massive AoE damage
- Great at teamfights
- No dash/escape ability
- Easily ganked
- Needs protection
- Channeled ultimate
- Long ability cooldowns early game
Miss Fortune Counters
These champions give Miss Fortune a hard time in game due to having a kit that can stop her from doing what she wants to do. Here are some of the hardest counters and how you can try to overcome the challenges they bring.
Tristana is considered a counter because she has the ability to burst Miss Fortune with her E, Explosive Charge. Miss Fortune cannot maximize her passive when facing Tristana 1v1 as it reduces her damage potential. Tristana also has a way to engage and escape using her Rocket Jump as Miss Fortune can only slow her and gain a small amount of movement speed.
Draven is considered a counter because the longer they both stay and farm in lane, the more Draven earns more gold. This can transition to powerspiking faster than Miss Fortune does. He can also boost every basic attack with his Q as long as he catches it. Miss Fortune can't deal with him 1v1 if she doesn't get a lead in the lane. Draven can also use his E to cancel Miss Fortune's ultimate, drastically reducing her damage output.
Sivir is considered a counter because she can block abilities using her Spell Shield. Miss Fortune wants to hit the enemy with the bounce of her Q, which can critically hit the enemy for massive damage. But Sivir can always avoid this damage by using her Spell Shield. Sivir is also just as great at teamfighting as Miss Fortune if not better with her utility and high AoE damage. If your team cannot crowd control the enemy, your ultimate will be useless compared to Sivir's.
Miss Fortune Synergies
These champions work well with Miss Fortune and should be considered being picked alongside her if possible. Here are some of the biggest synergies and how you can abuse them.
Leona synergizes well because Miss Fortune has strong burst damage perfect for following up on Leona's engage. Miss Fortune can use her E and ultimate from very far away as Leona initiates. This is a perfect setup for Miss Fortune's abilities to excel.
Soraka synergizes well because they both have very high lane dominance and win almost every matchup. With Soraka's slow, silence, and healing abilities, they are going to be unstoppable early on. This botlane will always have lane priority so the allied jungler can have free reign over the bot side. This combo also has great level 1 damage so you can easily invade and cheese to potentially get a huge advantage early.
Nautilus synergizes well by setting up Miss Fortune, similar to Leona. She can burst enemies down when Nautilus engages with his Q and locks down the target with his passive. Miss Fortune can also use her abilities when Nautilus goes all-in. With his ultimate, he knocks up everyone in its path while you are able to hit your targets from a safe distance.
Miss Fortune Summoner Spells
Miss Fortune Runes and Keystones
Miss Fortune’s recommended runes are Precision primary with Press the Attack, Overheal, Bloodline, and Coup de Grace. Her recommended secondary is Sorcery with Nimbus Cloak and Gathering Storm. These runes give Miss Fortune more damage, as well as some survivability with Overheal and Bloodline. Nimbus Cloak helps to escape after casting a summoner spell. Gathering Storm will help Miss Fortune scale into the late game.
If you want to have the ability to move faster while also having better sustain, you can use Fleet Footwork, Triumph, Bloodline, and Coup de Grace on Precision as primary and Magical Footwear with Biscuit Delivery on Inspiration as secondary. This rune build focuses on your defense rather than offense early in the game. You may want to use this setup if the enemy has a composition that can easily kill you. Fleet Footwork and your W combine to give you a lot of extra movement speed. This setup gives you more sustain in fights and especially in lane with biscuits, while dealing a bit less damage due to the loss of Press the Attack.
Both rune setups use Attack Speed, Adaptive Force, and Armor for stats.
Miss Fortune Builds
Miss Fortune’s recommended items change depending on the situation, however, the following items will give you a good idea of what to build in different situations.
- Doran’s Blade is the standard starting item for Miss Fortune. This will give her HP, AD, and lifesteal that will help her in the early game.
- Start with Doran’s Shield if you need to survive the early to mid game against difficult matchups to safely scale into late game.
- Essence Reaver is core on Miss Fortune because it gives you more damage, critical chance, cooldown reduction, and helps to keep your mana topped off. This item is very strong during laning phase.
- Infinity Edge is core on Miss Fortune because it gives you 80 AD, 25% critical chance, and causes crits to do even more damage. This crit damage bonus increases the damage of not only her auto attacks, but also her Q and ult when they crit. This item also has great synergy with crit + attack speed items.
- Rapid Firecannon is core on Miss Fortune because it gives you attack speed, critical strike chance, and movement speed. This item gives an energized auto-attack that increases your range and deals additional damage. It works very well with your passive, Love Tap.
- Use Berserker’s Greaves as it provides additional attack speed that will give you more DPS
- Buy Ninja Tabis/Mercury’s Treads when you are having trouble in lane and you need some extra defense.
Offensive Situational Items
- If you want to deal more damage to the enemy while also having more survivability, you can build Bloodthirster because it gives 80 AD and a shield whenever you lifesteal while full hp. This item works great with your runes and can save you from assassination.
- If you want to deal more AoE damage, you can build Statikk Shiv because it provides more critical strike chance and attack speed that works well with your core items. When energized, your auto attack bounces to up to 5 additional targets which can even hit enemies that you couldn’t normally reach.
Defensive Situational Items
- If you want to have a second life in almost every team fight, you can build Guardian Angel. When built, it gives you 45 AD and 40 armor, as well as a passive with a 5 minute cooldown which revives you upon taking lethal damage after 4 seconds. As an ADC, enemies will be trying to focus you and this item can save you from sure death.
- If you want to add more critical strikes to do more damage, while also having more survivability, you can build Phantom Dancer. This item gives more critical chance, attack speed, and movement speed. It also has two passives. The first, spectral waltz, makes you move faster for a short time after hitting an enemy champion. The second passive, Lifeline, triggers when you fall below 30% HP, and gives you a shield that could save your life. This effect has a 90 second cooldown.
Full Build Example
An example full build might consist of:
- Essence Reaver
- Berserker’s Greaves
- Infinity Edge
- Rapid Firecannon
- Guardian Angel
- Phantom Dancer
This is the most recommended build path for Miss Fortune to maximize her damage output. She wants to focus on having high raw damage in her build as well as the ability to burst anyone with her critical strikes. While dealing tons of damage is important for an ADC, they must also be able to survive. That is why a recommended full build should have one or two defensive items as well, such as Guardian Angel or Phantom Dancer. This mix of offensive and defensive items will help you get the most out of Miss Fortune.
Miss Fortune's Abilities
Passive - Love Tap
This passive enables Miss Fortune to deal more damage per second when fighting multiple targets. This is perfect in the bot lane, where you will always be against two enemies. In skirmishes, you can make the most of your passive by alternating attacks between the enemy marksman and support. Utilize your passive to harass the enemy in lane by sneaking in auto attacks on your lane opponents between hitting minions. Love Tap also deals bonus damage to towers. Alternate attacks between minions and the enemy tower to deal massive damage and shred it in no time.
Q - Double Up
This is Miss Fortune’s signature, bread and butter ability. It is the ability she uses to poke enemies in lane. You can use it to last hit minions or harass the enemy marksman or support. Double Up is a great trading tool during small skirmishes in the bot lane. Always look for opportunities where you get to bounce the second bullet to a champion. Whenever possible, try to position your Q where it will hit a champion in the frontline and bounce to a carry in the backline. This will deal heavy damage to mages or marksmen that aren’t careful of their own position.
W - Strut
Strut is Miss Fortune’s only way of escape. Passively, it gives her increasing movement speed as long as she doesn’t take damage. When activated, it instantly gives her the maximum amount of movement speed, as well as some attack speed. This ability can be used both offensively and defensively. You can make use of the buff to CS faster or trade better in the bot lane. Strut’s cooldown is reduced whenever Miss Fortune procs her passive. When using this ability, try to hit minions to reduce its cooldown. You can also use it to disengage from a bad fight. Strut is great to get Miss Fortune out of sticky situations in a pinch.
E - Make It Rain
Make It Rain is the first AoE ability of Miss Fortune before attaining her ultimate. This is an effective ability when having skirmishes in your lane. It helps you catch enemies by slowing them, allowing your team to follow up. You can also use your E before activating your ultimate to make it harder for your enemies to get away from it. Make It Rain is a great way for you to reach enemies without closing in. Note: You can also use this ability to gain vision in bushes and monster camps. You’ll never have to face check them and die.
R - Bullet Time
This ability is why you choose Miss Fortune. With her ultimate, she has the ability to destroy enemies in teamfights. Her ultimate is deadly when combined with any crowd control from your allies, making the enemy catch every single bullet that is coming. Be aware of your enemy’s movement as they will try to stop you from channeling your ultimate. Try to use it behind terrain so your enemies have a harder time getting to you.
Ability Skill Order
The skill order for Miss Fortune is R > Q > W > E. You want to put more points first into your Q, Double Up, to make your trading more potent in lane. Your W, Strut, is especially useful early game when you still don’t have attack speed items. Max your E, Make it Rain last. At level 3, your first three skill points should go into leveling Q, then W, then Q again. After that, you put your first point into your E at level 4. Always level up your ultimate whenever possible.
Miss Fortune Powerspikes
A powerspike a time when a champion reaches a level or builds an item that makes them a lot stronger than other champions in the game at that time. Miss Fortune has two major powerspikes, one when she reaches level 3, and another, like most ADCS, when she builds a BF sword. This is usually the power spike item for ADCs which will make your trades much more potent in lane. She can deal the most damage with her Q when she reaches level 9, with 5 skill points in it. This is the perfect time to make the most out of this ability and try to fight your enemies. As you gain your core items, take control of your lane then you can put more pressure around the map.
Miss Fortune's Combos
AA + Q
This combo is her most basic one but deals a ton of damage later in the game. This will deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
AA + Q + AA
This combo is used to trade against multiple enemies. You can also use your W after your second hit to follow up with more auto attacks. Try to bounce your Q to a minion or an enemy so your second auto attack will proc your passive again.
Flash + AA + Q
This combo is like your first one as your goal is to deal the most damage in a short amount of time. When you want to target a low HP enemy, you activate your Flash to close the gap before using the combo. If they aren’t dead and you are still in range, you can follow up with another Q.
AA + Q + E + R
This combo is the first optimal combo that combines all of your abilities in one go. Use this when your teammates have engaged and locked your targets. This will maximize the damage you can do with your skills.
AA + Q + AA + E + R
This combo is great when combined with Press The Attack. While almost the same combo as above, your goal is to add another auto attack before landing the E + Q to activate Press the Attack and boost the damage of your ultimate.
Q + R
This combo is used to burst the enemy down if you are certain that the second hit of your Q hits the enemy at the backline. If your Q crits, it will hit them for massive damage and your ultimate can do enough damage to finish them off. Your goal with this combo is to surprise the enemy with an insane amount of burst damage as quickly as possible.
E + R
This combo is used to quickly get your ultimate off from a safe distance. You can slow them with your E and immediately activate your R to guarantee more hits from your ultimate. This combo is also great to use as a followup to your teams engage in a teamfight.
Q + AA(Rapid Firecannon)
This combo maximizes the increased auto range from the energized attack of Rapid Firecannon. Use your Q to bounce to a far away enemy, then use the increased auto range from Rapid Firecannon to auto the enemy in the backline. This is difficult to do with your normal auto attack range as you won’t be able to reach your opponent.
How to Play Miss Fortune
During the early game, Miss Fortune dominates as her abilities are very strong at this time. Using her AA + Q combo, you can deal large amounts of damage to your lane opponents for effective trades. Utilizing her passive and abilities, Miss Fortune pushes waves early game much faster than most bot lanes. Use this to your advantage to harass and get level 2 first in lane. Your Q costs more than your W so use it only when necessary. Make sure you put a second point in your Q at level 3 as it will aid you in this phase. Your goal in the early game is to push the wave as fast as possible and take gold from the enemy tower’s plates. Try to reach level 2 before your enemies. Look to trade and harass as the enemy goes for last hits as they won’t be able to fight back during this time. Zone your opponents with your Q and give pressure to the lane. This is the time to take the lead before they gain the ability to engage on you. Pay attention to their movement and focus on landing your bounces to maximize damage. Poke them down and force an all-in. This will make them miss CS and back off the lane giving you more room to breathe. When reaching level 6, you have the potential to win 2v2 fights depending on your support. Wait for your support’s CC then use your combos in the best possible way. Remember your opponents’ spell timers and look to punish your enemies with ganks and fights when they are down.
- Split Pushing – Miss Fortune can deal a lot of damage to towers using her passive by alternating attacks between minions and towers. But she is very squishy and should be doing this with a teammate or two. You don’t want to die and force your team to fight without you. When farming gold around the map, be aware of your surroundings and any potential threats to you. If you die, this will lead to the loss of your team’s main damage dealer, so your number one priority is staying alive. Always stay with a teammate as your team needs to protect you and keep you alive.
- Objective Control – When taking fights around Rift Heralds or Dragons, your goal is always the same. You want to take teamfights as this is the best situation for you when enemies need to group up to commit to objectives. You should always stay grouped and look for opportunities to get your ultimate off on multiple enemies. Deal as much damage as possible while staying alive in teamfights. Stay behind terrain and channel R as much as possible. In teamfights, try to combo your ultimate with your teams’ crowd control so that the enemy can’t easily escape it. You can also zone enemies with your ultimate or the threat of your ultimate so your team can take dragon or herald. Either way, stay as close to your team as possible. When no objectives are up, focus on farming to gain more items and experience for upcoming teamfights.
The late game phase for Miss Fortune is all about teamfights around neutral objectives and towers. In teamfights, when enemies try to engage on you, kite in a way that you are close to your support so they can peel for you. Always attack the target closest to you. Focusing the enemy backline is not your job as you always want to stay alive as long as possible. Abuse your passive by alternating attacks between enemies. This will maximize your damage output. This will also reduce you W cooldown giving you the ability to kite faster and move around the enemy better with more activations of it. Look for opportunities to hit a target with your Q and let it bounce to a squishy target behind them, but don’t put yourself in danger when doing this. During the late game, your E is usually used to slow enemies and does not do a lot of damage. The slow of this ability can help you kite and escape enemies that are trying to engage on you. Even though you are the ADC, you should also help your team place vision around the map with control wards and your trinket. At this point of the game, you should definitely have a blue trinket, as the range will help you to check far away spots that you might otherwise have to facecheck. This is very important especially when the Baron and Elder buffs are up, as blue trinket can let you check if the enemy is taking these objectives without having to get close. Taking control of the area around neutral objectives before the enemies do can help you assassinate the enemy when they have to face check. Let your teammates engage first then follow up with your damage. Baron and Elder buffs are easy to take when you don’t have to worry about the enemy team. If a 5v5 is about to happen, do not use your ultimate if you are not in a safe spot. This will reduce the damage you can deal as you will likely have to cancel your ultimate early to escape. Communicate with your team and stack crowd control while channeling your ultimate. This is the most optimal strategy to conquer late game teamfights. After taking Baron or Elder, try to use your team’s newfound strength from the buffs to take down the enemy base and end the game.

Frequent Mistakes/Noob Traps
These are things most Miss Fortune players do that shouldn’t be done at a high level ELO.
Mistake #1 – Trying to double-tap minions that won’t be a guranteed crit (last hitting). This is usually a waste of mana, which you need to conserve early game as you are a really mana hungry champion early game
Mistake #2 -Being quick to use your ultimate. Take your time to position this, its a game maker or game breaker of an ultimate.
Noob #1 – Forgetting that your Strut gives movement speed. The amount of times using Strut for movement speed instead of attack speed has saved my life is insurmountable. Maximize this ability to quickly move around enemies in teamfights.
Noob #2 – Using Make It Rain too little. This is a great scouting ability and the slow on it is actually very impactful in teamfights. You can deal heavy damage with just this ability in play.
